The National Council of SPCAs has officially been named the Best Animal Welfare Advocacy winner at the 2026 African Excellence Awards.
Chief Executive Officer of the NSPCA, Esté Kotzé, highlighted the dedication behind the recognition and says the award reflects more than seventy years of steady work in protecting animals across South Africa.
She says as the demand for frontline enforcement grows, the NSPCA relies on public contributions to keep its inspectorate fleets ready and prepared.

Cape Town welcomes first cruise vessel of 2026/27 season

The City of Cape Town has welcomed the first cruise vessel of the 2026/27 season, as the Pacific World docked at the Cape Town Cruise Terminal last week.
A total of 1,397 passengers, predominantly from Japan, were greeted with traditional music and entertainment, in honour of Tourism Month.
The arrival highlights the Western Cape’s
escalating popularity as a prime cruise destination.
The 2024/25 cruise season contributed 1.79-billion-rand to the Western Cape’s GDP, supporting businesses and jobs across the sector.
Mayoral committee Member for Economic Growth in the City of Cape Town, James Vos, says cruise tourism plays an important role in strengthening the city’s position as a global tourism destination.

R568 upgrade to boost mobility in Bronkhorstspruit

The Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, says the upgraded R568 Road in Bronkhorstspruit, in Tshwane, will help strengthen the link between communities and economic activity in the region.
The road serves as an important transport link between the N4 and the D670 intersections in Bronkhorstspruit, facilitating mobility over long distances.
The Project scope covered the rehabilitation and upgrading of over eight kilometres, the construction of surfaced shoulders, the upgrading of key intersections and the installation of road signs and markings.
Diale-Tlabela says the project is an investment in safer transport, improved connectivity and economic growth in the region.
