Joburg residents urged to stay cautious as rain hits Gauteng
Story 1
Gauteng is set for a weekend of showers and thundershowers, with both Johannesburg and Pretoria expecting rain and mild to warm temperatures.
Joburg Emergency Services has urged motorists to drive carefully and residents in flood-prone areas to avoid crossing rivers or streams.
Emergency teams, including the aquatic rescue unit and fire stations, remain on high alert to respond to any incidents caused by the wet conditions.
The South African Weather Service also warns of possible localised flooding in the province and scattered thunderstorms across parts of the country. Meanwhile, three municipalities in the Western Cape face extremely high fire danger over the weekend.

NHLS restarts antivenom production to protect lives
Story 2
The National Health Laboratory Service has resumed production of lifesaving antivenoms through its South African Vaccine Producers subsidiary.
The first 536 units of polyvalent antivenom have been released, with further batches for snakes, scorpions, spiders and boomslang expected between early and late November.
Experts say antivenom is vital for treating venomous bites, especially in children and frail people, preventing deaths or serious damage from snakes like the black mamba, Cape cobra and puff adder.
The move restores a reliable local supply and eases fears in at-risk communities.

Australia creates Great Koala National Park to protect endangered species
Story 3
Australia has established the Great Koala National Park in New South Wales, covering 467,000 hectares and becoming the state’s largest protected area.
The park is home to an estimated 12,000 koalas, classified as endangered in 2022 due to habitat loss, and aims to support population recovery.
Logging has been banned within the park, a move criticised by the industry, but the initiative is expected to create around 100 new jobs and provide opportunities in tourism, conservation, and Indigenous-led land management.
Conservation groups hailed the park as a major achievement for wildlife protection.
