DUT to host global GISU Urban Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

For the first time in Africa, the Durban University of Technology will host the grand finale of the global GISU Urban Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition next week.
This is in partnership with the Alliance of Guangzhou International Sister-City Universities.
The prestigious competition comprises students from 28 universities representing 23 different countries.
Representing DUT in the competition will be five student entrepreneurs, comprising three women and two males.
The competition will be held under the theme, Further Promoting Sustainable Urban Development.

Marriott International & FoodForward SA address food insecurity in SA

Marriott International recently joined forces with FoodForward SA to help address one of South Africa’s most pressing challenges: food insecurity.
The partnership resulted in over 25 Marriott volunteers from six hotels packing boxes of staple groceries at FFSA facilities in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Each 20-kilogram box feeds a family of four for a month, helping redirect surplus food to those who need it most.
Marriott International’s Dorcas Dlamini Mbele says this initiative forms part of their global commitment to sustainability and community impact.

The non-profit organisation Funda Wande, is empowering teachers to teach literacy and numeracy more effectively by fostering reading comprehension and mathematical confidence among learners from Grade R to 3.
Research indicates that learners who read with understanding by Grade 4 have a greater chance of academic success throughout their education and beyond.

The South African Football Association has signed a 3-year partnership with Adidas.
The global sportswear company will now become the official technical sponsor for the country’s national football teams.
With Bafana Bafana having booked their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Banyana Banyana continuing to make their mark in women’s football, SAFA and Adidas say the partnership aims to usher in a new era for SA football.
The agreement is expected to boost the visibility and prestige of the national teams as they prepare for future international competitions.
