250-thousand-rand has been raised for the Eco Education Centre in Diepsloot, following a successful green and gold fundraising gala.
This was hosted by the Earthly Touch Foundation and Rotary Club of Morningside at the Country Club Johannesburg in Woodmead.
This eco-friendly centre is a model of sustainability, built from 110 tonnes of recycled plastic bricks, powered by solar energy, and utilizing rainwater harvesting and waterless toilets.
The centre supports 100 early childhood learners, 100 students needing extra lessons, and 100 unemployed youth and women gaining vocational skills.
Guests at the gala learned about sustainable practices, including eco-friendly building, water conservation, and repurposing waste into furniture.
