Melville’s creative community launches Art Mile

Melville in Johannesburg is bringing its artistic spirit back to life with the first Melville Art Mile on Thursday, 4 December.
The evening will feature galleries, studios, markets, live music, and creative workshops along a curated route connecting eight local venues.
Organised by artists and gallery owners, the event aims to support the neighbourhood’s creative economy and offer fresh opportunities for local talent.
Visitors can explore on foot, join guided tours, or use TukTuks, with plans to make the Art Mile a regular monthly event from February 2026.

South African Schools Win Top Global Robotics Titles

Three South African schools, Reddam House Bedfordview, Reddford House The Hills, and Reddam House Umhlanga, earned top honours in the global Inspired Builds Robotics Competition, competing against 111 schools from 24 countries.
Students designed, built, and coded robots addressing real-world problems, including a poaching-deterrent Rhino Protector, a garbage-collecting robot, and a low-cost health-assistant robot.
Teachers said the competition encourages applied problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity in STEM and shows South African students making a mark on the global stab.

Brazil to Recognize 10 New Indigenous Lands

Brazil will officially recognize 10 new Indigenous lands, giving communities full rights to live on and manage their territories.
Minister of Indigenous Peoples Sonia Guajajara announced the decision at COP30 in Belém, saying it sets the boundaries and advances legal protection.
One of the lands, Sawré Ba’pim, was already part of previous government plans, while Sawré Muybu is moving toward official recognition.
Guajajara also pledged 59 million hectares of public land to strengthen Indigenous land management and protect the Amazon.
