South Africans are encouraged to get involved in the Reach For A Dream Slipper Day campaign taking place on Friday, 29 May 2026.
The annual initiative calls on people to wear slippers and buy a R20 sticker to raise funds for children with life-threatening illnesses.
The campaign helps fulfil the dreams of the children, from meeting role models to once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Following an African Forum on Urban Forests hosted in Johannesburg in 2025, the City is publishing a book documenting urban forestry projects across more than 30 African cities and towns.
The publication includes 34 case studies from 75 contributors and showcases projects such as urban tree planting in Nairobi, baobab relocation in Dakar and biodiversity restoration in Durban.
Published by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the book highlights how urban trees and green spaces are used to improve environmental health, safety and community wellbeing.
The publication also warns of threats to city trees, including limited species diversity and pest outbreaks affecting urban ecosystems.

South African filmmakers and producers showcased new work at the 79th Cannes Film Festival on the French Riviera.
The European Film Market named South Africa its spotlight country, giving local filmmakers greater visibility at the global event.
Cape Town creative producer Casey Diepeveen presented the Afrikaans film A Baptism of Silence, which is in development and was selected for international labs and funding programmes.
South African tech entrepreneur Zoe Ramushu was also nominated for the Impact Leadership Award at the Screen International Global Production Awards in Cannes.
