Johannesburg gets its first City Power EV charging station

City Power has unveiled a new electric vehicle charging station at its Booysens head office, marking the first step in Johannesburg’s push toward cleaner transport.
The utility says expanding charging infrastructure across the city will create jobs, support EV adoption, and align Johannesburg with global trends such as the European Union’s planned phase-out of fossil fuel vehicles.
The metro also plans to gradually convert its own petrol and diesel fleet to electric, as part of a broader move toward a more sustainable future.
