Devil’s Peak trail gets winter-ready with volunteer efforts

Volunteers known as the Trail Apostles are working to make the Devil’s Peak trail in Cape Town safer and more accessible for hikers and trail runners.
Their efforts include clearing overgrown sections, improving water management, and installing rock and log steps in technical areas to stabilise the trail. Large rocks have been moved into place using shovels, pickaxes, and crowbars to ensure safety and durability for the winter season.
The work has already been praised by the community for making the trail smoother, safer, and more enjoyable for everyone who visits.

Kwabhekilanga Sports Ground set for upgrade

Ward 105 councillor Tefo Raphadu has announced a repairs and maintenance programme at Kwabhekilanga Sports Ground in Alexandra.
The project, valued at just under R700 000, will cover waterproofing, electrical work, painting, plumbing, and paving, with opportunities for local labourers and small businesses to be involved. Residents will be drawn from a CV pool to work with two SMMEs providing paving and painting services.
Athletics committee members welcomed the initiative, highlighting the importance of safe and well-maintained tracks for producing athletes, while Raphadu confirmed this upgrade is the first phase of broader improvements to the facility.
