Johannesburg organisations Woodrock Animal Rescue and 67 Blankets recently came together to celebrate their shared mission of giving back to communities.
The meeting took place at Carolyn Steyn’s home and included guests Stella Meldau and Jacqui Martheze. Woodrock brought a donation of blankets in support of 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, a movement founded in 2013 to provide warmth and care to vulnerable communities.
During the visit, both teams shared ideas, learned from each other’s work, and highlighted the ongoing impact of their initiatives in communities across South Africa.

Ruck March honours Human Rights Day

Brian Fell and Kurtis Kinsey carried out a 65 kilometre Ruck March in Durban, each carrying 20 kilograms, to mark Human Rights Day and commemorate the Sharpeville massacre.
The march passed through Marianridge, Newlands, Greenwood Park, Sydenham, and Wentworth, with participants adding extra weight in each community to symbolise hope, resilience, and unity. Local residents offered support with cheers, snacks, and encouragement along the route.
The initiative, organised by Ruck and Resolve, aims to inspire healing, resilience, and open dialogue around challenges faced by men and communities, turning the physical effort into a message of empowerment.

Gautrain expansion to improve access across Gauteng

The Gautrain Management Agency says its planned rail network expansion will give commuters in Soweto and other parts of the province faster and more reliable transport options.
The project aims to connect underserved communities to key economic hubs, helping ease traffic congestion and improve daily travel across Gauteng.
The expansion follows Panyaza Lesufi’s State of the Province Address, where timelines and proposed new routes were outlined as part of a broader plan to grow the network.
Gautrain spokesperson Albi Modise says the project is also expected to support job creation

Rare Gorilla Twins Born in Virunga National Park

Twin mountain gorillas have been born in Virunga National Park in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The two-week-old babies, a female and a male, are being closely monitored by park rangers. Twin births among mountain gorillas are extremely uncommon, occurring in less than one percent of cases.
Virunga, Africa’s oldest nature reserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, continues to protect these endangered animals despite regional conflicts.
