Sebokeng football programme celebrates Maseko’s rise

Thapelo Maseko’s journey from a Sebokeng primary school pitch to the World Cup stage is being celebrated after he scored the winning goal that sent South Africa into the knockout rounds.
The Bafana Bafana winger was discovered 11 years ago by the Dreamfields Project at Setlabotjha Primary School before progressing through Vaal Juventus, SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Dreamfields CEO John Perlman says Maseko's success is the result of years of support from his family, coaches and community, with the programme hoping his story will encourage more young footballers to chase their dreams

Literacy programme boosts reading results at Gqeberha primary schools

A three-year literacy programme supported by Isuzu Motors South Africa and the READ Educational Trust is entering a sustainability phase after showing improved results at three primary schools in Gqeberha.
The Rally to Read initiative focused on teacher training, learner support and providing reading materials at Khulile, St Albans and Kayser Ngxwana primary schools.
At Khulile Primary, Grade 3 English results rose from just under 59 percent in 2023 to nearly 69 percent in 2025, with Grade 4 also recording improvements.
The programme will now focus on helping schools maintain progress independently, while expanding support to additional schools in Nelson Mandela Bay.

An East London entrepreneur is creating jobs and supporting rural women through a bone broth business rooted in traditional food knowledge.
Phumeza Stuurman’s company, Rural Impaqt Bone Broth, produces chicken and beef broth using slow cooking methods and supplies customers in the city.
The project is based in Nxarhuni and is run by an all female team, turning agricultural by products into a source of income.
Stuurman says the aim is to use local resources and skills to build sustainable opportunities in her community.
