The Joburg Property Company has been recognised as one of South Africa's Top Gender-Empowered Companies by Topco Media, in partnership with Standard Bank.

Acting CEO Musah Makhunga welcomed the honour, saying it reflects the company's ongoing commitment to gender transformation in the workplace.

The Top Gender Empowered Companies campaign is endorsed by the Commission for Gender Equality, UN W​omen, and Standard Bank Top Women.

The campaign recognises organisations that prioritise gender empowerment as part of their core strategies across the public and private sectors.

City of Cape Town libraries host Coding sessions for over 400 youth

The City of Cape Town says 27 libraries recently hosted in-house coding sessions, attracting 438 young participants organised into more than 30 competitive teams.

The initiative forms part of the city's broader drive to promote digital literacy

Two teams from Elsies River Library will now go up against top performers to determine who will advance to the national competition in October and the World Tournament in December.

Stellenbosch student co-creates platform to empower future changemakers

A third-year BCom International Business student at the Stellenbosch University, Abigail Larsen, is co-creating an innovative digital platform, designed to mobilise a new generation of volunteers, leaders and social entrepreneurs.

Thallo is a social media platform connecting volunteers with organisations and charities and aims to bridge the gap between socially aware individuals and NGOs.

Twenty-one-year-old Larsen describes the platform as a mix between Instagram and LinkedIn.

She says the app will also feature a marketplace for NGO products and a gamified system that aims to build social capital.
