Sports Minister to meet Formula 1 delegates

The Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie, has revealed that a significant meeting is set to take place in the next week with representatives from Formula 1.

The Kyalami Grand Prix has been granted permission to modify its design and upgrade the circuit to Grade 1 status – the highest international standard for a race track required to host an F1 race, paving the way for a potential return of F1 to the country.

The original Kyalami Circuit was the home of the South African Grand Prix, hosting 21 F1 Grand Prix races.

The minister was speaking in Parliament while presenting a R6.3billion budget aimed at unlocking local talent in both sports and arts & culture.
