Two young scientists from South Africa will attend the Taiwan International Science Fair.
Both students Curro Durbanville High School’s Yu-Yao Chen in Cape Town and a former learner at Northern Academy in Polokwane, Karabo Mpuru, won at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, earning the opportunity to compete internationally.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says Chen and Mpuru’s work showcases the innovation, scientific curiosity, and global competitiveness of South Africa’s young scientists:

Polokwane cyclist completes 2,800km journey to Cape Town for childhood cancer charity

Andru Van Zyl, from Polokwane, cycled 2,800km solo to Cape Town to raise funds for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa.
Van Zyl, who just completed his matric, was inspired by a friend’s cancer treatment and wanted to support children and teenagers undergoing cancer care.
Along the route, communities, fellow cyclists, and local businesses provided support.
Andru’s initial goal of R300,000 was surpassed, raising over R615,000 to help CHOC provide practical, emotional, and educational support to families.
He arrived in Cape Town on Thursday.
