Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition

Grade 10 and 11 learners are given the opportunity to develop STEM solutions that address community and environmental challenges in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition.
The competition invites learners from all public schools across South Africa to submit projects while receiving guidance from mentors.
Top teams can win STEM equipment and all participants gain hands-on experience that strengthens their problem-solving and innovation skills.
The programme supports the Department of Basic Education’s goals of improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and building a diverse pipeline of future innovators.

Robby Ogilvie wins 2026 Open Competition at Sony World Photography Awards

Photographer Robby Ogilvie has won a category in the 2026 Open Competition at the Sony World Photography Awards for his image of Bo-Kaap in Cape Town.
His photograph, Colour Divides, was selected from more than 430,000 entries submitted from over 200 countries.
The image captures the historic Bo-Kaap neighbourhood, where residents celebrated their freedom by paiting their homes in bright colours.
The photograph will be exhibited in London in April, where the Open Photographer of the Year will be announced.

Tiisetso Malungane breaks running record

16-year-old Tiisetso Malungane from Pretoria broke the South African Under-17 3000 metres record and won the 1500 metres race at the Curro Podium Grand Finale this past weekend.
He cut eight seconds off his previous best time set at the national age group championships in Cape Town a year ago.
Malungane trains under coach Dillan van Rooyen and is supported by the Ruta Setjhaba Foundation, which also funded Olympic silver medallist Bayanda Walaza:
