SA tops global generosity rankings, thanks to community spirit
Story 1
Remitly’s Vice President of Marketing for EMEA and APAC, Ryan Riley, says South Africa’s top global generosity ranking reflects everyday acts of help, highlighting the country’s culture of community.
A survey of 4,500 people worldwide using the Interpersonal Generosity Scale found South Africans consistently help family, friends, and neighbours through small acts of support, earning a score of 51.57—ahead of the Philippines (50.2) and the USA (49.23).
The research measured empathy, patience, emotional support, and kindness, highlighting how daily choices build a generous society.
Riley says the spirit of generosity is reflected in the culture of countries like South Africa and the Philippines, where caring for one's community is a shared value.
