The National Health Department says 714 babies newborn babies were delivered in SA's public health facilities between midnight and midday on Christmas Day.
The first 2025 Christmas baby was welcomed at Elim Hospital in Limpopo at midnight.
Gauteng recorded the highest births in the country at 217 babies.

The Mogorosi Foundation donated food parcels and slippers to residents of the Joseph Gerard Home for the Aged and hosted a Christmas braai at the facility in Alexandra.
The foundation provided food supplies intended to last until its next scheduled donation and organised the meal as part of its annual Christmas visit.
The support supplemented the home’s limited resources and reduced pressure on caregivers responsible for daily meals.
The foundation plans to return before Easter next year to deliver additional food parcels as part of its quarterly outreach programme.
