Emeris students help tackle period poverty at Mayibuye Primary

Two Emeris Waterfall students have secured 200 sanitary pads for girls at Mayibuye Primary School in Midrand.
Mamigirl Mogale and Violet Nyamah started the initiative after noticing some learners struggling to access sanitary products.
SG Shuttle Services donated the pads, which were handed over to the school on August 12.
The students have also launched a website to attract ongoing donations and keep the initiative going after they graduate.

Young South African swimmer makes history in English Channel

Eighteen-year-old Amber-Rose Berry from Pringle Bay near Cape Town has become the youngest South African woman to swim the English Channel.
She completed the 33km crossing from England to France in an unofficial 10 hours and 27 minutes, despite cold water, strong currents and jellyfish stings.
Berry’s achievement adds to an impressive open-water career, after she became the youngest person to complete the 33km False Bay crossing at just 16.
Her latest swim also raised more than R111,000 for the Ukukhula Institute, supporting scholarships for disadvantaged student-athletes from the Eastern Cape.
