Sanitary towel drive supports Pimville learners

The Fundi Foundation and Kliptown Police Station have joined forces to provide sanitary products to learners at Thaba Jabula Senior Secondary School in Pimville.
The donation aims to help girls manage their periods with dignity while reducing the risk of missing school because they cannot afford sanitary products.
The initiative also encouraged learners to value their education and make positive choices about their futures.
The police and Fundi Foundation reminded the girls that their circumstances should not determine how far they can go.

KDC gives young skaters a chance to shine in Pretoria

Young skateboarders took over Thrashers Skate Park in Pretoria as the Kimberley Diamond Cup Grand Slam reached Gauteng this past weekend.
The competition offered R100,000 in prize money, while the top three riders in each category earned places in the KDC Championship in Kimberley later this year.
The event forms part of a six stop national series, giving skaters more opportunities to compete, develop their skills and progress in the sport.
Project manager Andile Mlawu says it is exciting to see skateboarding continue to develop, with events creating more opportunities for young talent.

14 Tshwane swimming pools ready for spring

Tshwane is preparing 14 municipal swimming pools for the spring and summer season, giving residents more options for affordable recreation.
The metro says the facilities have been assessed to ensure they are safe, functional and properly maintained before opening.
Pretoria North and Deon Malherbe swimming pools are among those ready, with Deon Malherbe scheduled to reopen on September 1.
The pool has undergone repairs including fixing leaks, replacing pipes and servicing pumps and filters.
It will accommodate family swimming, school galas and training sessions.

Mobile library brings books and creativity to children in rural Syria

Syria’s Ministry of Culture, with support from volunteers, is bringing books, art and educational activities to children in rural communities and displacement camps.
The Mobile Cultural Bus carries shelves of books, art supplies and a puppet theatre, giving children opportunities to read, create and play.
The bus has visited dozens of communities and reached thousands of children, including those with little or no access to libraries and cultural spaces.
With two buses now operating, volunteers are continuing to take learning and creative activities to more communities.
