14 Tshwane swimming pools ready for spring

Tshwane is preparing 14 municipal swimming pools for the spring and summer season, giving residents more options for affordable recreation.
The metro says the facilities have been assessed to ensure they are safe, functional and properly maintained before opening.
Pretoria North and Deon Malherbe swimming pools are among those ready, with Deon Malherbe scheduled to reopen on September 1.
The pool has undergone repairs including fixing leaks, replacing pipes and servicing pumps and filters.
It will accommodate family swimming, school galas and training sessions.

Amputee walks 5,000km to promote disability inclusion

Krugersdorp amputee King Nipho is walking 5,000 kilometres across South Africa to promote disability inclusion and unity.
The 37 year old has already covered more than 2,000 kilometres since leaving Pretoria in May, reaching the halfway point in Gqeberha on his way to Durban.
His journey has attracted growing support, with members of the public, B&B owners and organisations helping with accommodation and supplies.
Nipho hopes his journey will encourage greater support for people living with disabilities and bring communities together.

Grandmothers’ legacy inspires community knitting day

Community Hours and 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day brought people together at Cedar Square in Fourways for a day of knitting, crochet and giving back.
The event celebrated World Granny Square Day, with guests making squares and blankets while enjoying a movie together.
Some of the handmade pieces will be combined into blankets and donated to people in need.
The day was inspired by Community Hours founder Sarah Welton-Blake’s memories of the handmade jerseys her grandmothers created for their grandchildren.
