Deputy Minister calls for support for the deaf community
Story 1
Deputy Minister of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, Mmapaseka Steve Letsike has emphasized the need to support and empower the deaf community.
This comes at the back of the recently held 9th Annual Silent Walk & Run that took place on Saturday in Emmarentia, Johannesburg.
The event served as a symbol of resilience and a call to action against gender-based violence in the deaf community.
Over 2000 participants, including deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing community members, gathered to shine a spotlight on the challenges faced by the deaf and hard-of-hearing community as part of the International Month for Deaf People.
Health and Social Development MMC Ennie Makhafola says the Silent Walk is a symbol of resilience and a clear statement that silence must never be mistaken for acceptance of GBV.
