South Africa attempts Guinness World Record for largest braai at Loftus Stadium
Story 1
Thousands of South Africans gathered at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Heritage Day to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest braai.
Organised by Big Save, the event aimed to surpass the current record of 2,220 participants set by Ishigaki City, Japan, in November 2023.
With 2,500 participants, South Africa sought to set a new record for the most people grilling simultaneously. Each participant grilled a 200g piece of boerewors on custom-built stands, collectively cooking half a ton of meat.
The event also featured live music performances, food trucks, and beer gardens, celebrating South Africa's rich culinary heritage.
The official confirmation of the record will take some time, but the gathering showcased the nation's unity and love for braai culture.
