A Yellow Level 4 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms expected to affect the Highveld of Mpumalanga and northern Gauteng, bringing heavy downpours and strong winds.
The South African Weather Service warns that the storms may cause flooding of roads, low-lying areas, and bridges, with large amounts of small hail and excessive lightning also expected.
Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, including staying indoors and avoiding outdoor activities.

Johannesburg is set to host a major international physics conference in 2027.
The city has been chosen to host the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics General Assembly and the Working Group 21 International Conference on Physics, themed "Physics for Regenerative Development".
The conference is expected to draw over 375 delegates from around the world, focusing on key topics such as sustainable development, climate resilience, and technological innovation.

The City of Cape Town is looking to expand on its marketing campaign targeting Chinese travellers.
According to recent data from the United Nations’ World Tourism Organisation, Chinese travellers were in 2024 the biggest outbound spending category by country.
