A province-wide road maintenance campaign has kicked off in Magaliesburg, targeting major routes such as the R563, R509 and R24 to improve safety and service delivery.
Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela says the programme aims to repair infrastructure, fix potholes, restore lighting and signals, and address storm damage and sinkholes.
The department has boosted its maintenance capacity, allowing teams to respond faster to urgent issues across municipalities, including key tourist routes leading to Hartbeespoort Dam and Rustenburg.

The Mayor’s Craft Market has returned to the Cape Town Civic Centre this week, giving small businesses a free platform to sell their products.
The City says the initiative forms part of its skills development and poverty alleviation efforts, with registered vendors able to trade without paying fees.
Stalls will operate on Thursday and Friday, and again next Monday and Tuesday, from 7am to 3pm, offering items such as beadwork, leather goods, spices, clothing and woodwork.
Officials say the market has helped vendors recover after COVID-related income losses, providing both financial support and renewed dignity.
