Visitors to Melville Koppies in Johannesburg are exploring early farming history through a new interactive 3D heritage experience that recreates a smelting site last used more than 500 years ago.
The installation uses augmented reality and multilingual narration to show how early communities in the region produced metal and lived off the land.
The experience also forms part of guided and self guided tours that showcase the wider archaeological and natural heritage of the area.

Family Builds Autism Support Platform Inspired by Their Son in Barrydale

A Barrydale family in the Western Cape has launched an initiative called Ony’s Angels to support and raise awareness about severe autism.
The project was started by Rachel and James Rosenberg, inspired by their six year old son Onyx, who is non speaking and requires full time care.
The platform aims to create a supportive community for families navigating autism while also helping to ease the financial and emotional challenges involved.
It has already begun connecting parents who say they feel less alone through shared experiences and support

Tshwane University of Technology to Host First UIC Commuter Rail Training in Africa

The Tshwane University of Technology, in partnership with the International Union of Railways, will host the first commuter and regional train services training on African soil in Johannesburg from 26 to 28 May. The programme will take place at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre and will bring together global rail experts, operators and policymakers to focus on improving passenger rail systems.
Organisers say the training will cover international best practice as well as Africa’s rail challenges, with the aim of strengthening and modernising commuter and regional rail services across the continent.
