Ridgefield Security Estate residents have donated 50 emergency rescue blankets to Pretoria Volunteer Emergency Services through the Alpha Care Unit to support winter response efforts in vulnerable communities.
The donation comes as emergency teams report increased need for winter assistance, including blankets, food and basic support for people affected by cold conditions in Pretoria.
The Alpha Care Unit says the initiative is part of wider community efforts to support both residents and homeless individuals during winter, while also assisting emergency responders working in difficult conditions.

Thousands of homeless and vulnerable people in Bloemfontein have benefited from this year’s Street Store programme, which provides clothing, meals and hygiene packs in a pop up store environment designed to restore dignity.
Now in its 11th year, the initiative continues to support people facing difficult circumstances by creating a respectful space where they can choose items for themselves.
Organisers say the project also focuses on building human connections and offering hope alongside material support.

Hoërskool Birchleigh has received a sponsorship from telecommunications infrastructure company IHS Towers to support its growing soccer programme.
The donation includes training bibs and essential equipment for 96 learners, helping to strengthen participation and development in the sport at the school.
IHS Towers says the initiative forms part of its broader commitment to investing in communities and supporting youth development through education and sport.
School leadership says the support comes at a crucial time as soccer continues to expand at the school.
