Bedfordview Ultra Endurance Event Raises Over R800 000 for Charity

Athletes in Bedfordview have raised more than R800 000 for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa through the Spartan Baby Badass Ultra endurance event.
The 24 hour challenge saw participants take on continuous running, rowing and swimming, completing set distances every hour while pushing through sleep deprivation and extreme physical demands.
Now in its fifth year, the event brought together competitors, volunteers and supporters in a shared effort to raise funds for children and families affected by cancer.

Skateboarder Completes 106 Day Journey from Uganda to Cape Town for Youth Skatepark Project

Skateboarder Jason Vanporppal has completed a 106 day journey from Uganda to Cape Town, covering more than 5,500 kilometres to raise funds for a skatepark in Uganda.

Along the route, he was met with widespread support from communities across South Africa, with people offering food, shelter and encouragement as he passed through towns and cities.

The project aims to provide young skaters in Uganda with a safe and dedicated space to develop their skills.

The journey ended at the City Bowl Skatepark in Cape Town.

Rescued Great Horned Owl Returns to the Wild After Six Month Recovery

A great horned owl in Utah, USA has been released back into the wild after spending six months recovering at the Best Friends Animal Society sanctuary.
The bird was rescued after being found stuck in a concrete mixer and covered in hardened concrete.
Specialists carefully cleaned and treated the owl before using a rare feather replacement technique known as imping to restore its ability to fly silently.
After successful rehabilitation and testing in an aviary, the owl was cleared for release and flew back into the wild.
