SA to be represented at FIRST Tech Challenge World Championships

South Africa will be well represented at the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championships when 13 high school students from Cape Town take on teams from around the globe in Houston at the end of April.
The students earned their spot for the second year running after placing third in the Robot Games and winning the Inspire Award at the South African National Championships in Cape Town.
They design, build, and program their own robots, while also running outreach programmes that mentor learners and train 48 coaches to start new robotics teams.
On the world stage, they will showcase South Africa’s talent in engineering and technology and work to expand access to STEM skills for young people back home.

Dainfern Residents raise over R15,000 at Cancer Fun Run and Sprayathon

Residents of Dainfern Golf Estate in Johannesburg came together for their first Cancer Association of South Africa fun run and sprayathon, raising over 15 thousand rand for a meaningful cause.
Families, runners and golfers took part in a five-kilometre run and walk, followed by a vibrant sprayathon where participants coloured their hair in support of cancer awareness.
The event brought the community closer while promoting wellness, unity and hope.
Funds raised will go directly toward cancer services, including education, screening and patient support programmes.

DEAFinitely Theatre drama festival organiser Nombuso Wanda says the festival gives deaf artists a platform to showcase their talent, share their stories and be seen and heard in the creative industry.
The 2026 festival, organised by Voices of Different Corners, features performances, workshops, and film screenings in South African Sign Language, offering audiences a chance to experience deaf creativity.
Running from February through March, the festival aims to increase representation and opportunities for the deaf community in arts and culture.
Wanda says the festival creates spaces where deaf voices are celebrated, valued, and inspire the next generation of artists:

Words like blesser, chakalaka, papgeld, broekies and izinyoka now join favorites such as braai, lekker,and ubuntu, reflecting the everyday language of South Africans.
From traditional Zulu hats (isicholo) to modern realities like electricity thieves (izinyoka), the new entries celebrate the creativity, culture and humour of South African English.
