Rhinos return to Uganda’s Kidepo Valley after 40 years
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Rhinos have been reintroduced to Uganda’s Kidepo Valley National Park for the first time in more than four decades after being absent from the wild since the 1980s.
Two southern white rhinos were relocated this week as part of a plan to re-establish a small population in the park.
The species had previously disappeared from Uganda’s natural environment following years of illegal hunting, which led to their absence across the country’s parks.
Authorities say the animals were moved from a private ranch and placed in a protected sanctuary with fencing, ranger support and monitoring systems to ensure their safety.
