A community initiative in Northcliff is helping people experiencing homelessness gain practical skills through weekly training in knitting, crochet, sewing and looming.
The programme, run by Tshepo Community Development Initiative, aims to equip participants with skills they can use to contribute to their communities and improve their opportunities.
Participants have already produced Easter bunnies for elderly residents and are making beanies for children and adults.
With 11 donated sewing machines and a growing supply of materials, the project is expanding its training and plans to produce cushions and blankets for people in need.

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter in Khayelitsha is rolling out a major sterilisation campaign aimed at improving animal welfare in the community. The initiative will see 1,000 dogs and cats sterilised to help reduce unwanted litters and improve long term health outcomes for pets.
The organisation already performs around 3,000 sterilisation procedures a year and says the programme is key to controlling overpopulation and reducing animal suffering. While veterinary costs are covered through donor funding, Mdzananda is still raising funds for medication and surgical supplies.
Supporters are being encouraged to contribute towards sponsoring individual procedures to help reach the target.

Hotel Hope in Melville has received a boost this winter as Blanket Drive Jozi delivered 70 blankets, 70 cases of canned food and other essential supplies to support vulnerable children at the home.
The donation forms part of a partnership that has been running for six years and continues to provide practical assistance during the coldest months of the year. More than 25 vehicles took part in the delivery, creating a memorable day for the children while helping to meet important needs.
Blanket Drive Jozi now supports several charitable initiatives across Johannesburg through its annual winter campaign.
