Mamelodi Leader Honoured for Youth and Homeless Support Work

A Mamelodi community leader has been recognised for years of work supporting vulnerable young people and homeless residents in the township.
Thabo Kgotsi, founder of the Tandanani Drop In Centre in Pretoria, has spent 16 years running programmes that provide after school care, meals, sports activities and anti drug support for children.
The centre also assists people recovering from substance abuse with reintegration and job support, and is preparing to launch Mamelodi’s first homeless shelter.
Kgotsi was recently named a Halls Winter Hero in recognition of his impact in the community.

A newly renovated library has been unveiled at Luyolo Primary School in Emdeni, Soweto, during Youth Day celebrations, aimed at strengthening literacy and improving access to reading resources for pupils.
Education officials and literacy advocates encouraged learners to make full use of the facility to develop reading skills and improve academic performance.
The project was supported through a community driven initiative focused on upgrading school infrastructure and promoting a culture of reading.
