A new South African animated series, Unpacking George, aims to raise autism awareness in families and communities. The series follows George, a local character who learns about autism through his friendship with an autistic best friend. The series was created by retired advertising designer Derek Logan and autism advocate Dr Emile Gouws, and will be released on social media by Special Knead Café. The episodes explore everyday experiences of autism from an African perspective, helping viewers understand and connect with the challenges and joys of autistic people.

South Africa has three players in the main draw of the Australian Open Juniors, highlighting the next generation of tennis talent. Sixteen-year-old Jahnie van Zyl earned her spot through qualifying, beating Japan’s Kokona Ishii, while 17-year-old John Bothma and 18-year-old Connor Doig gained direct entry thanks to their top-50 world junior rankings. Bothma and Doig boast strong junior records, with Doig also a former South African junior champion. The tournament began yesterday in Melbourne, giving these young athletes a chance to showcase their skills on a global stage.

Former professional boxer, personal fitness trainer, and boxing coach Mbulelo Transvaal is seeking donations to fund a community program that keeps township children active, engaged, and away from crime through sport and play. Living in Riverside near Riversands, Transvaal highlights the challenges township children face, from limited resources to a lack of safe recreational spaces.With just skipping ropes and basic fitness routines, he has already started informal sessions that keep children active and focused. Transvaal is also in the process of registering his non-profit, a foundation called What’s Missing in a Child’s Life? The initiative is inspired by his personal journey and his belief that every child, deserves the opportunity to play, learn, and grow in a safe and supportive environment.
