Chatty Cafe Scheme brings strangers together for coffee and great connections
Story 1
The Chatty Cafe Scheme, a simple idea that started in the UK 8-years ago, has spread to South Africa and Greece, sparking conversations and engaging people nationwide.
The scheme by Alex Hoskyn creates a simple way to reduce loneliness: encouraging conversation in public spaces.
Participating cafés set aside specific times or tables for people who want to talk, allowing strangers to sit down and share conversation.
In Cape Town, a new Chatty Cafe meet-up has launched in Strand. The group meets on Wednesday mornings and evenings, welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds.
Organisers say the initiative creates connection by turning ordinary café visits into opportunities for conversation, helping people meet, talk and feel less alone in their communities.
