Residents rally to support elderly SASSA recipients

Two Roodepoort residents have launched an initiative to support elderly SASSA recipients who spend hours waiting in queues to collect their grants.
Nicole Mac Hattie and Tony Helfrich are providing sandwiches, coffee, rusks and other refreshments at SASSA offices across the region.
The pair plans to visit a different location each month and is now appealing for food, supplies, blankets and volunteers to help expand the initiative.

Blanche Moila completes 100th SPAR 10km race

South African running legend Blanche Moila has completed her 100th SPAR Women’s 10km race at the age of 70.
Moila finished the Tshwane race in 58 minutes and 16 seconds, placing second in the over 70 age group.
She made history in 1984 as the first black woman to earn Springbok colours in athletics.
Moila continues to encourage young women to take part in sport and says age should not prevent people from pursuing their passions.

Rotary Club supports learner development in Benoni

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora has donated equipment to Apricot Tree Stimulation Centre in Northmead to support the development of children and young adults with disabilities.
The donation includes an industrial cake mixer, fridge, speaker, mini exercise bike and projector.
The equipment will support activities such as baking, cooking, exercise and sensory development, helping learners build practical skills and confidence.
