Black Women in Photography Conference reshapes SA’s creative landscape

The Black Women in Photography Conference has ignited a transformative movement within South Africa's creative landscape, celebrating powerful stories of Black women photographers.

The Conference which concluded on Saturday at the Market Square in Johannesburg, featured speakers such as Charmain Carrol, a photographer and documentary maker who focused on remote villages from the Eastern Cape, as well as Lindeka Qampi, who specialises in township imagery and captures street life in the Khayelitsha area.

The event was Hosted by the Muholi Art Institute in collaboration with The Market Photo Workshop and Ruth Motau Photo Mentorship.

Sun City hosts prestigious 18th SA Sports Awards

The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture's 18th Edition of the South African Sports Awards, were hosted at the Sun City Superbowl in the North-West yesterday.

The awards carry a total of 19 categories and honour sports stars, trailblazers and unsung heroes, who continue to elevate the nation's sporting legacy.

Two-time Olympic champion Tatjana Smith claimed the coveted sport star of the year and Sports woman of the year awards.

Eskom marks 100 days without load shedding

Eskom says its tracking good progress in its generation recovery plan as it marks 100 consecutive days without load shedding.
The stare owned electricity producer delivered 144 days of reliable electricity to date, in the current financial year.

The power utility says this builds on the momentum of 2024 when it delivered 352 load shedding-free days.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said unplanned losses due to breakdowns are now at 6,035 megawatts, well below the 7,000-megawatt threshold.
