2026 South Africa Fashion Awards nominees announced

Nominees for the 2026 South Africa Fashion Awards have been announced, with public voting now open ahead of the awards ceremony which will be held on the 3rd of October at Hotel Sky in Sandton.
The awards have expanded to 21 publicly voted categories covering a range of the local fashion industry.
This year's nominees include established designers and fashion houses, stylists, photographers, beauty brands, retailers and industry executives.
The public can vote across all 21 competitive categories, with voting open to participants in Southern Africa and internationally.

Ethiopian Airlines launches direct Durban–Ethiopia route

The eThekwini Municipality has welcomed Ethiopian Airlines’ decision to launch a daily non-stop air service connecting Durban directly to Ethiopia from the 11th of December.
The new route will connect Durban directly with Ethiopian Airlines’ main hub in Ethiopia, opening access to more than 130 destinations across Africa.
The route will make travel between KwaZulu-Natal and East Africa more convenient by removing the need for an additional connection through Johannesburg or Cape Town.
The municipality’s spokesperson, Senzelwe Mzila, says this reinforces the province’s position as a key gateway into Africa

Funda Mpondo Literary Festival celebrates African storytelling

The fifth edition of the Funda Mpondo International Literary Festival was held in Lusikisiki, in the Eastern Cape, to celebrate African storytelling, promote indigenous languages and strengthen creative industries.
The festival aims to encourage writers from remote areas to continue telling African stories and to help up-and-coming authors to get their work published.
Hundreds of learners participated in the festival,
giving some of the learners the opportunity to have their work published through the independent publishing house Kwazithina Publishers.
