UNISA hosts sixth multilingual Spelling Bee

The University of South Africa hosted its sixth Multilingual Spelling Bee competition in Pretoria, where learners from across the country gathered to celebrate language, literacy and cultural diversity.

Structured across four progressive rounds the Spelling Bee tested not only spelling ability but also comprehension, memory and resilience.

The platform is designed to progressively challenge and assess participants’ language skills.

Distance For Difference celebrates 20 years of transforming Children’s lives

The Non-profit organisation Distance For Difference is marking 20 years of changing children’s lives, having raised more than 13-million-rand for over 60 charities across South Africa.
The organisation is hosting two exciting fundraising events in September and October.

The GRATITUDE Run will be held in Stellenbosch on Heritage Day, followed by a 24-Hour Cycling and Spinning Challenge, taking place in Somerset West, where cyclists will aim for 500 kilometres in 24 hours.

Cape Town to host 2025 WomenIN Festival

Hundreds of women will gather in Cape Town this November for the 2025 edition of the WomenIN Festival.

The festival which will be held at the Newlands Cricket Ground, features over 60 speakers, self-defence workshops and wellness spaces aimed at breaking barriers and building support for women from all walks of life.

The two-day event will focus on empowerment and healing.

Lesotho's Polihali Dam project set to boost Gauteng's water supply

The Construction of Lesotho’s giant Polihali Dam, which will boost the water supply to Gauteng, is advancing well following years of delays.

Once completed the dam is expected to boost annual water transfers to South Africa’s Gauteng region and help raise electricity production at Lesotho’s ‘Muela hydropower plant.

Lesotho Highlands Development Authority spokesperson Mpho Brown says about 30% of the main dam works were complete by the end of July and says the project had created jobs for roughly 14,000 people.
