Food Lover’s Market has launched its 10th annual Hunger Month campaign in South Africa, with a goal of providing 10 million meals this month. In partnership with FoodForward SA and supplier partners, the retailer is recovering surplus food into food support for households facing hunger.Since the campaign began, Hunger Month has delivered more than 21.5 million meals nationwide, with this year’s drive focused on growing support across its retail network.

A stray pit bull brought to the Durban and Coast SPCA earlier this month has been reunited with its owner after being missing for five years.The SPCA said staff scanned the dog for a microchip as part of standard procedure and were able to trace the owner’s details. The owner reportedly became emotional after receiving the call, saying he never expected to see his pet again.According to the organisation, the dog recognised its owner immediately during the reunion. The SPCA said the incident highlights the importance of microchipping pets, as it can help lost animals safely return home.

Athletes in Bedfordview pushed themselves to the limit during the Spartan Baby Badass Ultra. This is a gruelling 24-hour endurance event that raised more than 800 000 rand for charity. Participants took part in continuous running, rowing and swimming challenges, with runners required to complete a 4.167km loop every hour for 24 hours straight. Now in its fifth year, the event reached its maximum number of runner registrations and also introduced indoor rowing and swimming categories for the first time.
