A global survey has ranked South Africa among the world’s most polite countries, placing it in the top 10 alongside Japan, Canada, and the UK.
The study by Remitly surveyed more than 4,600 people across 26 countries, asking which nations show the most everyday courtesy.
South Africa earned recognition for everyday acts of politeness, including helping strangers, showing patience in queues and greeting others with friendliness.
Respondents in the country also ranked themselves highly, giving South Africans an 8th-place score for politeness.

The MathMoms programme trains unemployed mothers to teach foundation-phase maths at schools and at home, turning numbers into fun, play-based lessons.
Since launching in Cape Town in 2016, the project has reached thousands of learners, boosting confidence in a subject many find challenging.
The mothers gain skills and mentorship from teachers, while the programme strengthens links between schools, families and communities.

Northwood School donates 20 mattresses to support Local children

Northwood School in Durban has donated 20 mattresses to the Domino Foundation to support children at local early childhood centres.
The school released the mattresses during upgrades to its boarding facilities and transferred them to the organisation for redistribution.
Community members will refurbish the mattresses before they are delivered to 36 ECD centres supported by the foundation, where they will be used for children’s daily rest periods.

Young people in Limpopo are finding new ways to earn a living by recycling electronic waste through the E-Waste for Youth Employment Programme.
The one-year initiative, led by the International Labour Organization and funded by the government of Japan, trains youth to turn discarded electronics into income and green jobs.
The programme has reached 22 municipalities, giving participants practical skills and experience in the growing green economy.
