Over 4800 young assistants deployed in schools in the Northern Cape

Over 4800 unemployed young people have been deployed by the Department of Basic Education across schools in the Northern Cape, as part of
the national Presidential Youth Employment Initiative.
The initiative offers young people between the ages of 18 and 35 the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within the education sector, as education assistants, IT support staff, general school assistants
and aftercare facilitators.
The programme simultaneously addresses the needs of overcrowded schools and understaffed administrative functions by integrating unemployed youth into school environments.
The project will run for six months at the budget of 123 million rand.
