Gauteng Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Matome Chiloane will officially Switch-On the 2026 Online Admissions System at Ga-Rankuwa YMCA in Tshwane today.
This marks the start of applications for parents and guardians with children going to Grade 1 and Grade 8 at Gauteng public schools in the 2026 academic year.
Gauteng Department of Education’s Spokesperson, Steve Mabona says parents and guardians can make their application online on any device by visiting: www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

Two young men recently represented South Africa on the global stage as leading app developers.
13 year-old St John’s College student Ben Anderson and third year University of Pretoria student, Jason Mayo were recently selected as Swift Student Challenge winners a competition where students from around the world are tasked with using the Swift programming language from Apple to develop innovative applications which solve real-world problems.
Anderson 's innovative app simplifies school life with scheduling and textbook management while Mayo's Study Guard uses AI-generated flashcards to turn idle screen time into productive study sessions.
Out of the thousands of students around the world Ben and Jason were selected in the final group of 350-winners whose apps demonstrated excellence in innovation, creativity, and social impact, or inclusivity.

Marimba Players From South Africa & Zimbabwe Unite To Break Guinness World Record

Marimba players from South Africa and Zimbabwe are gearing up to make musical history in Cape Town.
The Grand Arena at GrandWest will come alive as more than 1,000 marimba musicians unite in an official attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest marimba ensemble on Saturday the 2nd of August.
The players, ranging from 8-years old to 62, will be travelling from all 9-provinces in South Africa, as well as from two schools in Zimbabwe.
