Karabo Letebele secures life-changing opportunity in U.S. athletics

South African sprint sensation and global track and field star Karabo Letebele has been handed a career-defining opportunity after committing to further his athletics career in the United States.

Following weeks of orientation with several American universities, the 19-year-old has
chosen to join the University of Arkansas, where he will train under renowned sprint coach Doug Case.

The sprinter holds the South African and African U20 record for the 60m dash with a time of 6.53 seconds, which was set in October 2025.

Durban celebrates a record increase in festive season visitor numbers

eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba says the festive season was the best the city has had in five years. Xaba presented a preliminary city performance report in Durban this week, where he revealed that eThekwini almost met its target of 1.3 million visitors for the 2025 festive season.

This was the first time the city had opened all 23 of its beaches in three years.

The Mayor, says the city welcomed over 6.8 million visitors to its beaches between the 1st of December and the 12th of January 2026.

The City of Cape Town is taking its tourism marketing to new heights with its This is Cape Town campaign, a large-scale international initiative designed to convert global attention into travel bookings that feed directly into the local economy.

The initiative which is led by the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, will be rolled out over several months across six continents and 55 cities globally, beginning in New York, London and several major European cities this month.

The campaign’s success in Africa and Brazil has paved the way for its expansion into major global hubs, strengthening Cape Town’s reach in key international markets, with expansions planned for
additional markets including China, India, the United Arab Emirates and Australia in the coming months.

South African comedian Trevor Noah is set to host the Grammy Awards for the sixth and final time on the 1st of February.

The renowned comedian has been the main presenter of the ceremony every year since 2021, guiding the global event that honours the best in music as voted for by members of the Recording Academy.

The role has cemented his place as one of South Africa’s most successful global entertainers, trusted to lead one of the world’s most high-profile live broadcasts.

This year’s Grammys will mark the end of an era, as CBS, which has broadcast the show since 1973, airs the awards for the final time in the United States.

The Grammys will begin a 10-year partnership with Disney, from 2027 where the awards will air on ABC, Hulu, and Disney+.
