South Africa and Lesotho collaborate to save injured Cape Vulture
Story 2
A juvenile Cape Vulture found injured in Lesotho has been rescued and is recovering in KwaZulu-Natal. With no local facilities able to care for the bird, authorities in Lesotho and South Africa coordinated permits under CITES to safely transfer it to FreeMe Wildlife.
The Wildlife ACT team collected the vulture from a remote area and transported it to the rehabilitation centre. The bird is now receiving fluids and nutrient-rich food, showing steady signs of recovery.
Although the vulture will not be able to return to the wild due to ongoing threats to the species, conservationists say the case demonstrates successful cross-border collaboration to protect endangered wildlife.
