Bryanston workshop equips women with self-defence skills

A free Women’s Day self-defence workshop in Bryanston has given women and girls practical skills to help them respond to potentially dangerous situations.
The workshop, hosted by Defence Unlimited, brought together about 50 participants aged 12 and older.
Training focused on awareness, setting boundaries, using their voices to draw attention and knowing how to respond if a situation becomes physical.
The session also addressed gender-based violence and the importance of prevention and personal safety.

Small food donation feeds hundreds at Gqeberha hospital

A food donation at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha went further than volunteers expected, providing meals and treats to patients and hospital staff.
The Livingstone Hospital Care Project planned to distribute fruit and sandwiches to patients waiting at the outpatient clinic.
The volunteers also reached people waiting for blood tests, scans and admission, as well as patients in the emergency unit.
Wheelchair users received blankets and 40 children received treat bags, while nurses, security staff and doctors also received refreshments.

Smart ID services expanded in Thembisa

Thembisa residents now have easier access to Home Affairs services following the launch of expanded Smart ID services at Mall of Thembisa.
The initiative is a partnership between the Department of Home Affairs and ABSA, bringing services closer to communities while making identity documents more secure.
The number of Smart ID access points has grown to 541 nationwide, including 327 bank branches.
The department also plans to add passport applications and secure delivery of Smart ID cards.
