A Gqeberha triathlete has raised more than R138,000 for a KwaZulu-Natal children’s home through an Ironman campaign.
Calvin Zeelie competed in the gruelling race in Nelson Mandela Bay in support of Summerhill House, a non-profit caring for vulnerable and orphaned children.
The 33-year-old initially aimed to raise R100,000 but surpassed his target ahead of race day, with funds set to support education and specialised care for children at the home.
Alongside his fundraising success, Zeelie also delivered a strong performance, finishing 17th in his age group in just over 10 hours.
His efforts made him the top fundraiser in the Ironman4Kids initiative, highlighting the impact of combining sport with community support.

A grade two teacher at Reddam House Constantia has inspired her school community after shaving her head to raise funds for Cancer Association of South Africa.
Mrs Owen took on the challenge as part of a BackaBuddy campaign aimed at supporting cancer patients and raising awareness about early detection.
The initiative brought together learners, staff and families, with the school rallying behind the cause during a final assembly where she shaved her head.
The campaign exceeded its R25,000 target, raising more than R43,000 through community support.
The funds will go toward cancer research and patient care, while the initiative also helped spark conversations around solidarity and support for those affected by the disease.
