Bana Pele drive registers 10,000 ECD centres ahead of schedule
Story 2
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has celebrated the success of the Bana Pele Early Childhood Development registration drive, which has already approved 10,000 centres three months before deadline.
The campaign brings informal centres into the formal system, giving them access to subsidies, learning materials, and government support.
By lowering barriers and reaching into rural communities, the initiative is helping to ensure more young children benefit from structured learning in their earliest years.
Officials say the milestone marks an important step in addressing South Africa’s early learning crisis and building stronger educational foundations.
