Wild Dog Pups Bring New Hope for Conservation in KZN
Story 2
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park is celebrating the birth of a new litter of African wild dog pups from the Munywaneni Pack.
The pups were discovered in a rocky valley in the Hluhluwe section, an ideal spot for safety and shelter.
Non-intrusive camera traps have captured rare footage of the young animals playing and learning essential survival skills.
The footage helps researchers monitor their progress while ensuring the pack remains undisturbed.
Wildlife ACT and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife continue to protect these endangered animals as part of the province’s broader conservation efforts. The arrival of the pups is a positive sign for the future of South Africa’s wild dog population.

Welsh Dogs Aid Anti-Poaching Efforts in Africa
Story 3
Dogs trained in Wales are helping protect endangered wildlife across Africa.
Nonprofit Dogs4Wildlife breeds and trains Belgian Malinois, Dutch shepherds, spaniels, and retrievers for anti-poaching work.
Training starts in early puppyhood to familiarise them with scents they will track in the wild.
By 16 to 18 months, the dogs are deployed to reserves in Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, tracking poachers and recovering targeted animals.
Their work has reduced poaching in some reserves and acts as a strong deterrent, supporting broader conservation efforts.
