City Invests R9 Million to Improve Sanitation at Helen Joseph Women’s Hostel

The City of Johannesburg has committed R9 million to replace damaged sewer pipes at the Helen Joseph Women’s Hostel.
The long-awaited upgrade aims to address years of blockages, flooding, and poor sanitation that have affected residents.
The project will replace about 850 metres of sewer pipelines and several manholes, improving the hostel’s wastewater system.
Ward 107 councillor Floyd Ngwenya welcomed the development, saying it would restore dignity to residents who have endured difficult living conditions.
Johannesburg Water confirmed that the project will also create local jobs, employing around 10 workers and involving two SMMEs.
