Story 1
The Gauteng Department of Education is taking action to improve learning conditions at Eqinisweni Secondary School in Ivory Park.
The school, which was built for 1,600 learners, now accommodates around 2,700 — putting a strain on facilities.
To help ease overcrowding, the department has delivered 10 mobile classrooms and started repairing existing infrastructure.
This follows a visit in February by ActionSA MPL John Moodey, who raised concerns about the school’s conditions.
Officials say both short- and long-term plans are being put in place to ensure learners and teachers have a safe, supportive space for education.
