Sandton SPCA has issued a compelling plea to the community to come together and help ease the burden faced by their overwhelmed shelter. With an influx of abandoned, injured, and frail animals, the organisation is reaching out for support through a dedicated 40-day fundraising campaign, scheduled to run from July 1 to August 18, aiming to raise 167 000 rand. The funds raised will be directed toward essential initiatives. This includes urgent sterilisation procedures, educational outreach programmes in disadvantaged schools and shelter upgrades.

Airports Company South Africa is undergoing a massive infrastructure maintenance and capital expansion programme across its airports. The programme prioritises high-impact infrastructure, such as sewerage systems, ablution facilities, and fire escapes.The project, which started in December 2024, should be completed by December 2025, and hopes to improve passenger comfort and hygiene standards. Bogong moths in Australia use stars to guide their 620-mile migration to cool mountain caves. They travel at night during warmer months, then return home to breed and die. A new study found they are the first invertebrates known to navigate using stars over long distances. Scientists tested this using a special flight simulator. When the stars looked normal, the moths flew in the right direction. When the stars were scrambled, the moths got confused. Their brain activity also changed with different star patterns. This shows they rely on the night sky to find their way.
