Ivory Park Storm Drain Upgrade Aims to Curb Flooding and Save Lives
Story 1
The City of Johannesburg has launched a R6.9 million infrastructure project to convert open stormwater drains into a safer, closed system in Ivory Park.
The project, led by the Johannesburg Roads Agency, will target Haile Selassie and Poopedi streets in Ward 78, with completion expected by September 2025.
The upgrade aims to reduce flooding, improve water flow, and prevent drowning incidents that often occur during heavy rains.
Local labour is being prioritised, with four SMMEs and five EPWP workers already appointed.
Officials say the project is a critical step toward safer roads and healthier communities, while also creating much-needed job opportunities

82-Year-Old Powerlifter Makes History at US National Senior Games

An 82-year-old woman from the United States is showing the world that strength truly has no age limit.
Faith O’Reilly, a resident of Saguache, Colorado, has become the oldest female powerlifter ever to compete in the 2025 National Senior Games—an event that, for the first time, included powerlifting as an official sport.
O’Reilly discovered her passion for powerlifting while studying law, managing to balance tough workouts with her academic demands. She went on to win state championships in Iowa and later pursued a career in legal education.
Now retired, she picked up the sport again in 2007 and has remained committed ever since. Her journey is a powerful reminder that determination and passion can flourish at any stage of life.
